Our Chinese couple was planning their vacation to Europe and Greece is right on the top of their itinerary. They stumbled upon a magazine about weddings in European destinations and a wedding in Santorini was featured. The very thought of holding a romantic wedding with the spectacular geographic setting of Santorini sparkles in the Aegean sea and basking under the Mediterranean sun proved too much to resist. The destination island was quickly decided and the couple engaged us to be their wedding planner.
The Perfect Wedding Venue
The bride wanted their wedding to be a little more than the traditional Chinese wedding. She also wanted the event to be simple, minimalist yet elegant. Keeping open-minded and active participation by the couple certainly helps with the planning process. Santorini is spoiled for wedding venue choices, each has its own merits and appeal factors. With a good understanding of the couple’s expectations and our experience on the island, a few fantastic venues were curated for the couple to choose from. After the venue was decided, more planning work and coordination followed. Finally, the stage is set to welcome the couple on the island.
The Wedding Ceremony
The weather on the actual wedding day was perfect, the light was very good. We couldn’t ask for anything better than this. The ceremony area was breathtaking. It is perched on the caldera cliff-side with the magnificent view of the volcano, the Aegean Sea, and Fira – the capital of Santorini. As traditional live music plays and couples march in, it seems time stood still. All of us feel the love of the couple and the magic of this Greek island wedding.
As it is a custom for Asians to do a pre-wedding photoshoot, we encouraged the couple to do some portraits shot after the ceremony. Our experienced photographer kindly obliged and escorted them to the village of Pyrgos, which is located on the highest ground with a panoramic view of the whole of Santorini. The wedding and photoshoot session ended on a high note with all of us watching the sunset below the horizon on the pinnacle of Kasteli castle ruins.
