A simple yet elegant and romantic wedding in Santorini follows by a photography tour around this most spectacular Greek island, this must be the dream of most brides-to-be. In this two part blog, we will share with you the wedding and bridal photoshoot of Weiwen and Vivi, the couple’s romantic travel to Greece – the cradle of the Western civilization, the birthplace of democracy, literature and philosophies, the phenomenal landscape and breathtaking scenery in Greece and the Aegean islands.
We were delighted that our bride Vivi contacted us to plan her trip in Greece and she expressed a wild idea to have a wedding ceremony in Greece. She was hoping to visit Greece before their traditional Chinese wedding ceremony back home in Guangzhou China in December. During our initial email and phone exchanges, we felt the couple really helped a lot by telling us what they wanted. They needed someone who can plan and organized her entire trip including the travel part, the wedding and the photoshoot so the couple could focus their time to prepare for their wedding at home. They also prefer someone who can relate to their culture, language and most importantly, someone that is familiar on the ground in Greece, especially Santorini.
We must have been blessed with such a lovely couple; the planning was a real enjoyment. We designed a 10 days itinerary around the couple’s tight work schedule and travel expectation. The good mix of sightseeing in Athens and islands exploration at a relax pace certainly impressed them. The last thing they want is being drained of their energy even before the wedding starts.
They arrived in Athens and were received by our friendly driver to send them to their hotel, which is very near to Syntagma (Constitution Square). The hotel was carefully chosen; as it was a stone throw to the famous sites, Plaka old town and the shopping street of Ermou. It also close to plenty of Greek tavernas, cafes and bars, so they are spoiled with many choices. They had a good dinner in a local tavern and followed by a good rest.
The next day, they set off to explore this once glorious and powerful town of ancient Greece – Athens. The city got its name from Athena, the goddess of wisdom and courage. They navigated this bustling city with minimum fuss using the travel information pack prepared by Aegean Dreams. Famous sites such as the Acropolis, Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Temple of Olympian Zeus, changing of guards at Syntagma were at the top of their list. A half day guided tour was arranged for them to visit the beautiful southern coastline of Athens and among that lies the majestic Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, some 70km away from the city.
Besides the immense history and cultural experience, Athens also offers great shopping choices! Kolonaki, a chic and upmarket neighborhood located on the southwestern slopes of Lycabettus hill. It is a fashionable meeting area and one of the leading shopping areas in the city. Plaka is an old historical neighborhood of Athens next to the Acropolis. It has labyrinthine streets, neoclassical architecture and built on top of the residential areas of the ancient town of Athens. You will find plenty of souvenir shops and taverns in here. Not to forget Monastiraki, a flea market neighborhood close to Plaka offers many clothing boutiques, souvenir shops, taverns and specialty stores. All these areas are well within walking distance and highly recommended to really experience the daily life of an Athenian.
After two good days of history and archaeological sites, the couple is finally looking forward to the highlights of their trip – sailing on the Aegean Sea. There awaits them are the gorgeous Cycladic architecture of the Aegean and the mesmerizing islands of Mykonos and Santorini.
